Abstract

The overall aim of the thesis was to develop a tool for building rhythmic acuity through rhythm exercises. The mentioned tool is Rubato web app, which can be used for one’s improvement of the perception of note sequences repeatability. There are many games with rhythm as a core or one of their gameplay mechanics, however in their case the player is assumed to be rhythmical to begin with. Rubato gives the opportunity to master required skills both to musically or rhytmically inexperienced and experienced.

The main task was to design an interactive app for rhythm training revolving around the performance of rhytmic patterns including metronome and the statistical analysis of its results. This training method uses a set of preselected drum scores. A digital metronome serves as its base by generating audio impulses with a certain frequency. The goal is to interact with a chosen rhythmic sequence by clicking spacebar when metronome tone is heard. Every level is visualised so that every moving note is located in the middle of the screen when it is to be hit. Those hits are analised afterwards by the algorithm and used as a feedback for the player.

For rating the effectiveness of the tool there were used two comparsion groups differing in their level of musicality. Based on the results obtained, an analysis of each level’s efficiency was conducted, achieving satisfactory results.
